Scope and Contents

Elwes refers to obligation of Sir John Austen of Stagenhoe, St. Paul's Walden, Hertfordshire and Robert Austen, his son and heir, to him for payment of £2357, 10 shillings. He acknowledges £500, part of this principal, was lent by his cousin Richard Hale and interest is to be accounted to Hale until he receives his principal money.

Endorsed: Geoffrey Elwes declaration of Trust to R. Hale for 500£ in S[i]r John Austins hands. Also on leaf 2v: "Dec. [th]e 4. Rec of my Vncle Elwest [th]e first 1/2 a years entrest -- 12-10-8."
