The manor of Pinkneys was in the possession of the Hale family in the 17th century (Richard Hale of King's Walden, co. Hertford, died seised of it in 1620 and it remained in the family until 1715).

This document mentions members of the Pinkney and Whitehead families: Arnold defunct, and Johanna uxor Johanis Whitehead (Arnold son of John Pinkney died in 1430 seised of 'the manor of Pinkney's Place' held by suit at the hundred court of Beynhurst.
