This collection contains the call numbers Y.d.6 (1-231).

Letters to John Payne Collier from various correspondents, including some addressed to other recipients and forwarded to Collier. Chief correspondents include William George Spencer Cavendish (Duke of Devonshire), Peter Cunningham, Alexander Dyce, Francis Egerton (Earl of Ellesmere), Horace Howard Furness and Henry Crabb Robinson.

Letters largely concern Collier's editing and publishing activities, including works on Early Modern literature and his editions of Shakespeare, and assorted events within membership ranks of literary and antiquarian societies. Devonshire's letters include requests for advice on purchases for his collection. A number of letters refer to Collier's work as secretary for the British Museum Commission (37, 111, 114, 115, 119, 120, 189). The correspondence also includes references to Inigo Jones' sketchbooks (32, 35, 45, 71, 202), Shakespeare portraits (8, 26, 36, 113), and the Perkins folio (2, 27, 39). Also includes notes (draft essays) in Collier's hand (226, 228-230) and Collier's accounts with Whittaker & Co.
